Action steps to improve our listening skills

Today we are going to know the step by step actions to improve our listening skills and to be an active listener.

So what should we do to have this great skill?

1- Show that you are listening. Pause any thing you are doing and pay attention by looking directly to the speaker, avoid to be distracted by environmental factors.

2- Listen not only to the words, but also try listening to the feelings of the person.

3- Focus on the body language. You will receive a lot of information of the message he wants to send.

4- Show interesting to what he is saying. Use facial expressions such as smiling every now and then node and encourage hem to speak by using small verbal comments such as yes, hmm, and uh huh.

Your posture is very important, make sure it is inviting and welcoming.

5- Paraphrase the words he is saying. What we understand from hearing is not always right so asking questions like: “Sounds like you are saying…” or I think you mean that…” is important to be sure that you have got the right message. Ask clarifying questions occasionally, and summarize the speaker’s comments periodically.

6- Do not interrupt.

7- Respond positively and respectfully. Even though you may disagree with speaker but you should start your respond with a positive message with   a respective way in order to make him relax and know that he is not in    a war, it is just a conversation even if you have a different point of view.

8- Lastly, treat the other person as he or she would want to be treated. Try to understand the person you are talking with and his backgrounds, so you can treat him in the right way.

You may see that these steps are long and hard, well I admit that they are not that easy It takes a lot of concentration and determination, but believe me by practice it will be very easy and you will do it unconsciously and when you are there be sure that you have developed a very important skill that will change your life and speed your success.

Our action step for today is:

Apply our steps of listening when you speak with people; also practice on thinking and speaking more positively. Try it with your close friends and family, after a while you will get familiar with this kind of listening and you will automatically do it with all people.

And remember that your ability to listen will have a positive impact not only on your effectiveness at work and home but also your success in your overall relationships with others.


Get motivated

 

Today we are going to talk about motivation, I think most of us know the word but some of us do not know how to apply it and use it in achieving goals, so let us go through it and try to understand its deeper meaning.

Motivation…What dose it mean?
In simple words it is anything or any one that encourages you to achieve something or to keep on doing it, in another words it simply means “a motive to take action”.

There are two kinds of motivation:

1- Internal motivation.
2- External Motivation.

Internal motivation is your thinking, your thoughts, and your internal messages that you give to your self. This is a very important factor of motivation, and by using it in the correct way you can own this strong tool of motivation.

External Motivation is any external source that can make you motivated, such as a friend, a story, a song, etc…

We need both kinds but, if our internal motivation is strong enough we can survive without a lot of External Motivation, besides, you do not always have a friend or a song to motivate you, but you always have your thoughts and your self talks anywhere and anytime. That what makes internal motivation more important.

So we now know the importance of motivation as if we do not have it, it is more likely that we are going to fail accomplishing a lot of things in our life.

Now you need to know what motivates you and what does it take for you to find motivation? Some people are motivated by power and other may be motivated by money so, what motivates you may not motivate me and vice versa, it is up to you to decide, this may take time but it is important to know what it takes to motivate you.

Let us talk a little about self talks, those little thoughts or talks that pass through or run around our minds, but be careful they are not just thoughts that come and go without affecting your attitude, on the contrary they have a great influence on our minds and therefore our actions and manners. It is always there so we must be careful of what ideas we give our unconsciousness mind.

If you think a little you will realize that we give our self a lot of negative messages, Such as “I will never be able to do this, or I am very tired this morning and depressed it will be an awful day in work” and so on.

These are dangerous negative messages; they can affect your attitude badly. We could change our attitude in life by only changing the way of thinking, so do not underestimate the power of thinking.

As we avoided negative thoughts we must give our mind a lot of positive thought,
even if we are in a serious problem or in a difficult situation, these positive thought have the power of getting you out of any problem that you face.

But there is always a moment of getting down and feeling depressed and you feel sorry for your self, at that moment go to a hospital and just take a look on the patients who are stuck in there beds or even go and watch the news or read the newspapers and you will see that there are many people worse than you, and that you are actually one of the lucky ones.

Finally, these are some action steps to apply some of what we have read and get out with some benefits::

1- Believe in your self, believe that you can do any thing only if you want to, and just give your self positive ideas on a daily base such as (I am very good today, my day will be perfect and it will go on just like I want) and so on.

2- Avoid negative people, there are people that are loaded with negative ideas
and being around them will defiantly affect you, so keep away of these guys and try to be around positive people. You will not believe the amount of energy you will get just being around someone carrying positive thoughts.

3- Do everything with a reason, and try to make those reasons have positive emotions they are more conductive to your success than doing it for reasons that have negative emotions.

4- Help other people to succeed and reach their goal, giving is a very strong motivation for a lot of people and I am one of them, it is one of the best moments of my life when I am able to help someone. Giving leads you to personal fulfillment which helps you to succeed in your life.

We all have something we want to accomplish we might want to make more money, improve our lifestyle, or do anything else, and to do things right and keep on doing it you must find the right motivation, and always try to strengthen your internal motivation and make it your essential source of motivation and as I read once, “the right motivation is a powerful driving force that can help you to hang in there and keep you moving toward your goal“.
